What height should cut and maintain my lawn?

Bermuda, Centipede, and Zoysia lawns should be maintained at 1 – 1 ½ inches. St. Augustine lawns between 2 – 3 inches and Fescue lawns between 2 ½ – 3 ½ inches. Most important to bag clippings on Zoysia lawns.

What is a Core Aeration?

The process of removing thousands of small plugs of earth from the turf which allows fertilizer, water and air to reach the root zone quicker, resulting in new growth and increased root development. Also to open up the soil and help reduce thatch build up and soil compaction.

How often should my lawn be watered?

You should water your lawn with a deep, thorough soaking once a week (about 1″).

How long do I need to stay off the lawn after treatment? What about my pets?

For at least two (2) hours or until dry, for both humans and pets.

It rained after my lawn treatment, what should I do?

Pre-emergent applications need to be watered in to be most effective. Typically if it rains after an application we ask that you wait ten to fourteen (10-14) days to see any wilting or yellowing of weeds. If not, call our office and we will send the technician out for a FREE service call.

How often should my lawn be mowed?

It is suggested that you mow your lawn at least once a week to improve weed control, color, and overall health.

I am noticing some discoloration in my lawn, what could be wrong?

Unusual browning or yellowing can sometimes occur when a disease is developing or when the lawn is suffering from drought stress. It is always important for you to contact our office immediately so that we can have a technician assess any problems.

Can I mow my lawn after it has been treated?

Yes, but it is best to wait at least 24 hours. If you have to mow before that, don’t bag clippings and water in so treatment will still be effective.

What time of day is best for watering my lawn?

In the morning, from 6 AM to 10 AM.

Will rainfall immediately after an application affect my lawn treatment?

Don’t be concerned that rain will reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. In fact, moisture, either from rainfall or from watering, actually improves the performance of the treatment. A light rain will not cancel the benefits of a liquid application; it may actually enhance it. Most often this applies even in the case of heavy rains. But, if you feel heavy rain affected the application, wait a couple of weeks and if you don’t see the weeds dying, call us and we will come back out.

What if I can’t water my lawn?

If you cannot water your lawn due to its size, a water shortage, or for other reasons, the treatments will still be effective. However, your lawn may go semi-dormant or lose some of its color during hot and dry weather.

Will my lawn be totally weed and insect free?

No lawn care service can promise this. At Dorsey’s, we use the very best of materials and we feel that we can reduce the population of weeds and insects to teh point that they are not visually noticeable or damaging. If at any time, you feel the treatments are not effectively managing the weed and insect problems, please give us a call.

How long should it take to service my lawn?

The latest equipment and technology allows Dorsey Services to make applications to your lawn quickly and efficiently. This savings in labor through this technology is passed on to you, the customer. The average lawn in our area can be sprayed in less than 10 mnutes, depending on the number of obstacles in the lawn, such as flowerbeds, gardens, sidewalks and patios.

How much does it cost?

Treatment costs for lawn care and pest control depend on the amount of square footage to be treated. Contact our office for an estimate.

Are the materials that Dorsey Services uses harmful?

We use only the safest materials. All of these materials are registered with the Environmental Protection Agency for use on turfgrasses and are applied in strict accordance with the labels. When possible, keep off of the lawn for about an hour after application. This will allow the material to dry enough for continued enjoyment of your lawn.
